Fundamental Foundations

Want to be strong, mobile and skillful?

Want to have the freedom to move freely and pain free in a body that works for you, not against you, all whilst having fun?

Most people think the above attributes are too far out of reach.

We are here to say you can absolutely attain them and we can help.

We have proven methods to help you achieve your specific strength, flexibility and skills goals.

However, there is one common entity that is a very important aspect of your fitness journey:

A good FOUNDATION.

This gets overlooked so often.

WHY?

The most common reason is that the term Foundation seems to be misunderstood by so many.

People often think foundation means boring, simple, less complex, unsexy work and a waste of time!

This is probably also the reason most people are:

  • Bored of doing the same old stuff

  • Struggling to make progress

  • Most likely in discomfort or find it hard to move

  • Can't use or express themselves physically the way they want

  • Have plateaued when learning a new skill, like the handstand

  • Pushing too hard above your current abilities, resulting in frustration and even injury

It doesn’t matter how long you have been exercising/ doing sports and what your ‘fitness age’ is - the focus should always be on laying a strong foundation to help prepare our bodies not just for higher skill/strength work but also to live a better quality of life.

If we don't create the space and time to do the foundations, it's only a matter of time till we'll either hit a ceiling with our intentions or be forced to visit this type of work!

Working on the foundations is very humbling. Everyone has weaknesses somewhere in their body and generally, we humans don’t like to expose ourselves to something that we are not good at.

Doing foundational work can be perceived as ‘too easy’ and it’s often an inner battle with our ego to humble ourselves and realise the benefits of laying a strong foundation.

At Shoshin Movement Studio, we embrace what we suck at.

We challenge our ego’s and give ourselves space for inner practice to approach the foundations with an open mind.

And yes, this is the building blocks to work on for handstands, heavy deadlifts, pancakes, backbends, muscle ups, levers and other movements.

Laying the foundations and doing this fundamental work builds bodies and minds for longevity and gives us the freedom to move well.

We invite you to come and feel the difference our methods and style of training can do for you.

Trust the process and see where it gets you!
